What you need before boarding Haruka

IC card alone?No

An IC card may cover the basic-fare portion, but a Haruka limited-express ticket or a valid combined/QR product is still required.

A limited-express ticket is required in addition to the basic fare unless both are included in a specific combined product.

Seat reservation?Depends on the ticket

JR West's current visitor-ticket guide allows advance seat reservation and also describes use of non-reserved seating when no seat is reserved or the dedicated reserved car is full.

Bag reservation?No

JR West states that oversized-baggage reservations apply only to the Tokaido, Sanyo, Kyushu and Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen, not conventional trains.

The Shinkansen baggage rule does not apply

Haruka is a conventional limited express. The 160–250 cm Shinkansen advance-reservation system does not apply to this train.

The conventional-train luggage area has no Shinkansen-style oversized-baggage seat reservation requirement; space can fill.
